Certkngdom Is The Best Way To Prepare For The CCNA Exam?

Certkngdom Is The Best Way To Prepare For The CCNA Exam?

It seems like the question every new Cisco CCNA student has is what is the best way to prepare for the CCNA exam? So I would like to take some time in this article to discuss my thoughts on what will help you achieve your goal in obtaining your Cisco CCNA certification.

The CCNA exam was created to illustrate that you understand and can perform the topics relating to routing. Not that you can memorize questions and answers from brain dumps! So where do we start?

Study Guide – Well you will need a full blown CCNA study guide. These are about 800 pages in length so don’t expect to blow through them in a week. It is not light reading. Some good choices out there for study guides are the Sybex CCNA study guide for a low cost solution written in layman terms, the Bryant Advantage Study Package for a well written total package and the CiscoPress CCNA guide for a solution that is written very techie.

Real Routers and Switches – How can you really be confident and work on Cisco equipment if you never opened a Cisco router or Cisco switch? If you do get a job working with Cisco routers, will you be intimidated by the router the first time seeing it knowing you never actually worked on one? That said, there is so much to learn about these units by having the actual hardware. You can’t duplicate what happens when you have a serial cable come loose or are using the wrong type of cable(straight-thru versus cross-over) daisy chaining switches with a simulator. I don’t know about you, but I learn so much more effectively using real equipment. I also find that most CCNA students say the same. The only way to actually see routing and such work and know that you made it work is to have real Cisco routers and switches for your Cisco certification training lab. What I find is that when I mess up a lab about 10 times in a row due to a typo or trying to enter a command at the wrong level of the IOS, when I actually figure out what I was doing wrong….well, I am never going to forget that again! This is actual real hands-on experience! That translates into you actually understanding what went on and helps you obtain the troubleshooting skills so you can methodically work through issues. Again, there is no way to recreate this by just reading a book and understanding theory. So to help you pass your Cisco certification exam, I suggest you invest in some Cisco routers and switches for your lab. You will find it to be some of the best money ever spent on your education! At www.CiscoKits.com you will find CCNA kits to fit every budget. So head on over to CiscoKits to see their many kits and tons of free certification articles and videos. For more information on which routers to pick for your lab, you can checkout this article CCNA Lab Suggestions.

Lab Workbook – Something I never understood on eBay is people will buy solutions which are advertised as CCNA lab kits that have no corresponding lab workbooks that match the equipment that is being offered. What good is it to have a collection of equipment if you can’t perform labs on them? So you need to make sure the kit comes with a lab workbook. All the kits at CiscoKits have lab workbooks with them. You can see a sample of the topics covered on in the lab workbook at 640-802 CCNA LAb Workbook.

Test Engine – Now there is a BIG difference between a test engine that will help you understand the CCNA concepts and what you are missing and brain dumps! The test engines that are just the exact questions from the test are garbage! All that proves is that you can memorize questions and answers. If this is the route you choose to achieve your certification, you will ultimately choke on the job as you won’t really know the material to perform your job. You need to understand why an answer is right and why one is wrong.

CRAM Sheet – This is a great addition to your CCNA exam prep material. A CRAM sheet should consolidates all the major concepts from the 800 pages of a full blown study guide to a easy to carry sheet or two for you to review all hours of the day and night! Here is a link to a great CRAM sheet product, the CCNA 640-802 CRAM Sheet. Here you can see all the product details and concepts covered. This is very handy to carry around with you when you have a few free minutes to study here and there so you are not lugging around a big bulky book. You can also easily bring the CRAM sheet with you to cram to your exam. In fact, we suggest you do use it to brush up on the main concepts just before you pass your CCNA 640-802 exam!

CCNA CBT – If you can’t afford $3,000 to sit an actual class, the next best thing is a Video CBT of the CCNA course. Historically these CBTs run about $250 each. But a great tip is CiscoKits includes a CBT that normally is $250 with many of their lab kits for about $50! So you can save $200 on the cost of the CBT training! Here is a link to the CBT description CCNA CBT DVD Now just look for one of their kits that has it included as it only costs about $50 when you get it with a kit.

Ok, now that we covered the major tools you will use in your ICND1, ICND2, and CCNA self study journey, we are going to provide you some guidance on how to use them effectively. Here is a suggested study plan….

1. Read the first few chapters of the full blown CCNA study guide you purchased. These first three or four chapters are usually mostly your base theory and then around the third or forth chapter you get into basic router configuration and how to login to the router.

2. At that point you will want to configure your Cisco CCNA hardware lab. You will pick out some of the corresponding labs in the workbook to follow along with the study guide you purchased. That is why we wrote the lab workbook in a generic sense as there is no way we can know what study guide you will be using or what actual hardware you will have. But now you should be able to perform some of the basic CCNA labs in the lab workbook. Continue through your study guide performing the corresponding labs that are in the lab workbook.

3. One you complete the study guide, now you should go through one of the CCNA Test Engine exams such as CCNA exam A*(Important note, only do one exam!). After you complete the exam, you want to print out the entire exam so you can review the sections and concepts you got wrong. Also note what your score was for that exam.

4. Now go back to the study guide and brush up on the concepts you scored poorly on in exam number one.

5. You should now have a baseline of where you were at with the test score. We want to make sure you are scoring about an 80% before you even think about attempting the real Cisco CCNA exam at $125 a pop.

6. Here is where you will want to start to work in additional items such as the CRAM sheet and videos. These tools will present the information to you from a different perspective as everyone learns using different techniques and via different communication mechanisms. Some will benefit from the full blown study guides, some from the hands-on of the labs and workbook, some from the videos, others from the full color CRAM sheet and finally some from the test engine. You want to use all the tools at your disposal for all they are worth.

7. Once you reviewed all the material once, now go back and take CCNA exam B. Hopefully you are scoring close to 80% by now. You will then want to repeat the above process of printing out the exam, reviewing the sections or concepts you scored poorly on and again leveraging the tools at hand.

8. You should see how you can continue to repeat this methodology while learning and not memorizing the questions. If you memorize the questions, you defeat the purpose of trying to learn the actual concepts. I am quite sure if you follow this road map, you will be scoring close to 80% by the time you get to exam C. Just continue refreshing the material and in no time you will be holding your passing exam score for your CCNA certification!

Windows Vista Certification

Windows Vista Certification

In January of 2007 Microsoft released Exam 70-620 TS: Microsoft Windows Vista. Through this certification exam an IT professional gains training on how to become an expert in working with the Vista operating system, earning their Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification.

According to Microsoft the MCTS certification has different portions which have to be mastered in order to gain a passing exam score. Exam 70-620 is designed to train and test the following areas:

Installing and Upgrading Windows Vista
Configuring and Troubleshooting Post-Installation System Settings
Configure Windows Security Features
Configuring Network Connectivity
Configuring Applications Included with Windows Vista
Maintaining and Optimizing Systems That Run Vista
Configuring and Troubleshooting Mobile Computing

Microsoft has clearly stated their target audience for the MCTS certification is individuals who have worked closely with network connectivity, security, and network applications.

One of the questions which many IT professionals want to know is if this exam might replace the MCSE or MCSA exams. I havent been able to come up with a clear answer that proves this will be the case. There is speculation that yes, the popular MCSE exam could be replaced; however Microsoft hasnt stated that this will happen. What we do know for sure is that the IT industry is constantly changing and trying to develop more efficient manners to solve and answer problems. Vista is a crack at this from Microsoft in my opinion, and though right now it may not be the most popular operating system, it has the potential to be the direction of companies in the future. If this were the case, the new and upcoming certification courses Microsoft is offering now might be the most beneficial certifications to pursue.

Careful preparation for Exam 70-620 is crucial to gaining the MCTS certification. There are different routes one can take in order to most efficiently prepare. CBT courses are one of the most popular routes in becoming prepared for certification exams. Through these courses users are provided with the ability to set their own pace and the option to cover material as many times as needed prepare.

Microsoft Certifications - What Are The Options?

Microsoft Certifications - What Are The Options?

A Microsoft certification is a certified qualification in any particular Microsoft application and comes in a variety of levels. All you have to do is choose the right Microsoft Certification exam for you and develop your learning in that area. You then take the exam and become certified upon successful completion.

Microsoft certifications are available for everyone and anyone who wishes to expand their qualification in the field of Microsoft technology. You dont have to be a sponsored employee, you can be a home user, IT professional, technology trainer or any other individual who works with computers or wishes to. You may wish to use the certification as a professional icon for clients who will recognise the certificate and associate your company with trustworthy services and quality. You may wish to use the Microsoft certification to expand your job prospects, as you will be able to show written proof of your abilities to prospective employers. You can achieve several different types of Microsoft certifications at four different levels. The type of your certification will depend on the Microsoft application your examination is on. The first level attainable is called the Technology Series. This is designed to train IT professionals in the areas of technical implementation, debugging, building and supporting Microsoft technology. This area is ideal for IT support staff that deal with ongoing problems and local application issues on a daily basis.

The Professional Series certificates individuals with valid proof of their particular skills in a particular Microsoft application. This certificate is ideal for people looking to expand their job prospects or to create a professional qualification for their business. The Master Series identifies a deeper understanding and higher quality skill set in individuals participating on a specific Microsoft application. This is a more advanced form of the Professional Series for those who are looking to have in depth knowledge and experience within a certain area. In addition to this there is also an Architect Series for top level professional MCITP Training who will need to complete a rigorous examination process for certification. Microsoft certification also comes with various benefits for the individual or company taking part. You will not only receive the pride at having achieved a quality and certified qualification, you will receive the respect and recognition that comes along with being a Microsoft Certified Professional. The Microsoft Certification will also improve promotional prospects, job finding, salary increases and job retention.

You can also get your personal MCP community profile listed in the MCP directory, access to the Microsoft Certification member site, access private and public newsgroups to discuss topics with other professionals and build up your business networking, special invitations to conferences, training sessions and other special events on up to date technical issues and a subscription to MCP flash a dedicated technical newsletter for mcse 2003 training. Microsoft Certifications are not just about the employee; they are also the key to the building and ongoing training of current staff within a business. An employer who instigates relevant Microsoft Certification for employees can ensure a high quality of staff, work and IT support for all areas of their business that involves technical proficiency to any degree. The diverse range of Microsoft Certifications available allow employers to fully train and certificate employees in a large range of products and applications they require a standard of work with. They can also specialise the area in which an employee operates with standalone Microsoft certification in any one particular application field or any of the technical series for IT support staff within the company.

MCSE 2003 Training Companies In The UK

MCSE 2003 Training Companies In The UK

Does an MCSE 2003 appeal to you? It’s very possible then that you’re probably in 1 of 2 situations: You’re currently an IT professional and you should formalise your skills with a qualification such as MCSE 2003 Training. Alternatively this might be your initial foray into the computer world, and research demonstrates that there’s a growing demand for those with appropriate certifications.

As you discover more about training colleges, don’t use any that compromise their offerings by not upgrading their courses to the latest Microsoft version. Overall, this will end up costing the student a great deal more because they’ve been educated in an old version of MCSE 2003 Certification which will have to be revised very quickly.

Training companies should be devoted to offering the correct route for their trainees. Directing learning is equally about guiding people on establishing which direction to go in, as it is giving them help to reach their destination.

Sometimes men and women think that the state educational system is the right way even now. So why then is commercial certification beginning to overtake it?

With fees and living expenses for university students spiralling out of control, together with the IT sector’s recognition that corporate based study is closer to the mark commercially, we’ve seen a big surge in Microsoft, CISCO, Adobe and CompTIA based training paths that provide key skills to an employee at a much reduced cost in terms of money and time.

In essence, only that which is required is learned. It’s slightly more broad than that, but the most important function is always to focus on the exact skills required (with some necessary background) - without going into too much detail in all sorts of other things (as academia often does).

In simple terms: Accredited IT qualifications provide exactly what an employer needs - the title is a complete giveaway: as an example - I am a ‘Microsoft Certified Professional’ in ‘Managing and Maintaining Windows Server 2003′. Therefore companies can identify just what their needs are and which qualifications are required to fulfil that.

IT has become one of the more electrifying and revolutionary industries to be involved in today. To be working on the cutting-edge of technology puts you at the fore-front of developments that will impact the whole world for generations to come.

It’s a common misapprehension that the revolution in technology that’s been a familiar part of our recent lives is easing off. This couldn’t be more wrong. Massive changes are on the horizon, and the internet significantly is going to dominate how we conduct our lives.

And keep in mind that on average, the income of a person in the IT sector throughout this country is considerably greater than the national average salary, therefore you’ll most likely gain considerably more as a trained IT professional, than you could reasonably hope to achieve elsewhere.

The need for well trained and qualified IT technicians is assured for quite some time to come, because of the substantial increase in this sector and the massive deficiency that remains.

A successful training package will incorporate fully authorised exam simulation and preparation packages.

Confirm that the mock exams haven’t just got questions on the correct subjects, but ask them in the way that the actual final exam will ask them. This throws students if they’re met with completely different formats and phraseologies.

For many reasons, it’s very crucial to ensure that you’re completely ready for your actual certification exam before embarking on it. Practicing simulated exams helps build your confidence and will save a lot of money on wasted exam attempts.

It’s abundantly clear: There’s no such thing as personal job security anywhere now; there’s really only industry and business security - any company is likely to fire a solitary member of staff whenever it suits the company’s business requirements.

However, a quickly growing market-place, where staff are in constant demand (because of a massive shortfall of properly qualified professionals), enables the possibility of lasting job security.

Offering the computing business for example, the most recent e-Skills study brought to light a skills shortage across the country in excess of 26 percent. To put it another way, this means that the United Kingdom is only able to source 3 certified professionals for every 4 jobs existing currently.

Fully qualified and commercially accredited new staff are thus at an absolute premium, and it’s estimated to remain so for a long time.

It’s unlikely if a better time or market conditions could exist for getting trained into this hugely expanding and blossoming business.

Microsoft Project Training – where do I start?

Microsoft Project Training – where do I start?
Non users know it might be handy for drawing project schedules – but make do with an Excel imitation and fail to appreciate the powerful planning and tracking functionality.

As project management becomes a core methodology underpinning most modern organisations it is time for companies and individuals to learn just how much more effective they could be by using Microsoft Project, alongside other everyday tools such as Word and PowerPoint.

This Guide explains the range of training options that are available.

1. Microsoft Project Training – Where do I Start?

There is no simple answer! It depends very much on your current familiarity with projects and project management software tools. You also need to take into account the skill sets that you are looking to achieve. Visit the MS Project Training Page on the Focus website for more information.

Basic Awareness – You want to be able to set up project timelines using Microsoft Project and understand the basic tracking and reporting functionality – If you are starting from scratch we would recommend a 2 day Introductory (Level 1) course. – If you already have some familiarity with the software (perhaps from an earlier release) then a 1 day course would be appropriate – If you are totally new to a project environment then introductory project management training may be a useful start point. This will help you to understand project organisation and timelines

Advanced User

Certified Professional

The content of these courses is explained in the following sections.

2. Introductory Courses – Level 1
If you need to understand how to build and manage project plans, an Introduction, or “Level 1″, course in Microsoft Project will get you started. Courses cover the essential skills necessary to create and modify a project plan including tasks and resources. The emphasis will be on creating the initial plan. There are versions of these training courses tailored to align with both 2003 and 2007 releases of Microsoft Project. • Build and edit a project plan • Create and assign resources • Manage project costs • Track progress • Filter and print project plans • Communicate your plans • Produce reports

There are options of one or two day courses depending upon your previous knowledge and experience. The one day course assumes basic awareness of projects and project planning – perhaps from an earlier version of Microsoft Project.

If you are completely new to project management you will find it beneficial to attend a general project management introduction course first.

Please check the different training course outlines which may have a slightly different content. The Level 1 training is not accredited by Microsoft or associated with an exam. However, all Focus courses are developed and delivered by Microsoft partner companies with a deep knowledge of the subject.

3. Advanced Courses – Level 2

Advanced or “Level 2″ Microsoft Project training courses are designed for existing MS Project users who want to add to their basic skills. They will also benefit Project Managers wishing to learn how to customise Microsoft Project to their own specific requirements. You will learn to use advanced features to plan, track and analyse variances from plan. The emphasis is on how you work with a plan in the implementation phase.

• Resolve resource over-allocations • Manage multiple projects • Integrate MS Project with other Office applications • Customise the MS Project interface (fields, tables, views, filters and reports) • Record and run simple macros • Exchange project plan data with other applications including Excel & Word • Create and print custom reports • Import data • Track project progress

There are versions of these training courses tailored to align with both 2003 and 2007 releases of Microsoft Project. There are also options of one or two day courses depending upon your previous knowledge and experience.

Please check the different training course outlines which may have slightly different course content.

The Level 2 training is not accredited by Microsoft or associated with an exam. However, all Focus courses are developed and delivered by Microsoft partner companies with a deep knowledge of the subject.

4. Microsoft Certified Training & Qualifications

Microsoft operates a comprehensive structure of internationally recognised certifications. Project 2007 skills have recently been incorporated into the MCTS Training (Certified Technology Specialist) and MCITP Certification (Certified IT Professional) framework.

The MS5927 “Managing Projects” course is a 3 day course which provides the entry point for the other Project 2007 training. A basic knowledge of project management and experience of using MS Project to create project schedules are pre-requisites.

5. Specialist Courses

For those looking to apply Microsoft Project to specific environments there are other specialist courses available. Amongst them is one which relates specially to use of Microsoft Project to manage PRINCE2TM projects. This covers similar topics to the Level 1 course but includes guidance on how to model PRINCE2 TM processes within MS Project.

– If you need certification or you require the expertise to deploy Microsoft Project in an enterprise environment then follow the official Microsoft courses – These will prepare you to take the relevant Microsoft exam – You already know how to set up a project but you want to be confident in using Microsoft Project to update plans, produce custom reports and interface effectively with other programmes – You have probably already been on a Level 1 course and should now choose an Advanced (Level 2) course – Depending on your level of existing knowledge choose a 1 or 2 day course log on http://www.testkingdom.com for info on Microsoft Certification and mcitp training

Troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Vista (5 Part Series) – Introduction

Troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Vista (5 Part Series) – Introduction

Computer troubleshooting is in many ways more art than science; it’s more of a marriage between your basic computer understanding and all the peculiarities of your specific environment. Truth be told, this series of articles actually possesses very little capability in terms of helping you troubleshoot your network. What it can do, however, is get you pointed in the right direction so that you have a better idea of the troubleshooting resources that are at your fingertips within Vista.

Of course, there’s no way any computer article can possibly foresee every possible computer troubleshooting scenario. If you want to really know whether a particular troubleshooting approach will work, my best advice is to give it a try. It’s just a machine, after all, and you aren’t going to break it with a few clicks of the mouse.

OK, you might break it, but if you follow some of the advice laid out in this article, you shouldn’t be able to do anything that you can’t undo. Here, we focus mainly on some of the troubleshooting tools that Windows Vista places in the hands of the administrator. As always, the focus is mainly on what’s new: we will examine a new utility called Problem Reports and Solutions, and I’ll bet you don’t need to read much further to guess what the nature of that one is. Also, we’ll explore some tools that an administrator might already know from previous operating systems like the System Restore utility, and we’ll look at situations in which System Restore just might save the day.

In this 5-part series of articles, we will discuss the various tools available for troubleshooting within Windows Vista. As I’m sure you’re aware, this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. If you’d like to get my entire book “Windows Vista Administration: The Definitive Guide” by Brian Culp, Publisher: O’Reilly, ISBN-13: 978-0-59-652959-8 (or any of my 20+ other books and tutorials), you can pick it up at my website, www.TheAnswerHub.com or at most major book chains. In addition, I’m always happy to provide additional assistance for free (within reason, mind you…don’t go thinking this is some sort of a free ride). Visit me at my website and submit your questions to me. I’ll get back to you with an answer as soon as possible.

Up next: we start with a look at a troubleshooting task that is meant to prevent many problems from happening in the first place. It’s the Vista Automatic Updates, which Vista admins should absolutely use to enforce good preventive health.

MCSE 2003 Online Training or Money Back

MCSE 2003 Online Training or Money Back

MCSE 2003 Training is for those who want to build a career in the field of networking. A training process covers the main topics very quickly but effectively. The course is of very short duration, that is, of only two to three weeks. MCSE or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer is one of the best-known and opening Microsoft certification. MCSE certifies a person as being able to handle the networking problems and can analyze the networking requirements to run the business. The certification not only validates your expertise with products launched by
Microsoft, but also demonstrat
es your skills and capabilities to present and potential employers and peers.

Windows 2000 and Windows server 2003 are the two different product platforms of MCSE past 2007, these lines were not a part of the MCSE, and each of them requires a different set of exams.

For MCSE 2003, candidate must pass six core-designed exams (one client operating system exams, one design exam, and four networking exams) and one elective exam.

For the windows 2000 MCSE 2003 Training, a candidate is required to clear five core exams (four operating system and one design exam). There are four compulsory or core examinations to be cleared by the candidate for MCSE NT 4.0 (retired). The syllabus of the examinations includes Networking essentials, Windows NT Server, Windows NT server in the enterprise and Windows NT workstation, plus two electives. The basic subjects of the exams are Microsoft SQL Server, network security, computer networking, Microsoft Exchange Server, other topics of networking and specific Microsoft products.

The individuals also prefer CISCO career certifications like CCNA, CCNP, and CCNE etc. Various institutions organize CISCO training program that provide, for training for these specific courses.

There are three levels of certification: Associate, Professional and Expert. The certification of CCNA cab be gained by passing two tests (ICND1 and ICND2), or one single test (CCNA 640-802), the two test option is more advantageous, allowing the candidate to focus on certain subjects. The certificate is valid for three years.

CCNA imparts trainee knowledge of networking like ability to install, configure and trouble shoot local and wide area networks. On the other hand, CCNP certifications have the demonstrated knowledge and expertise required to manage the routers and switches that form the medium sized networks (between 100 and 500 nodes). All the MCSE, CISCO and CCNP training programs are required to gain expertise in the networking field.

Things That You Need To Know About the 70-291 Exams

The IT industry today is expanding at a rapid rate, and is constantly looking for professionals who have the requisite skills to carry on the work efficiently. This is probably the reason why the selection criteria are becoming stricter, and job selection processes becoming tougher.

In order to give you an edge over the others come the Microsoft Certifications, which are quite reputed all over the world. Three of the main certifications include the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) and Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE 2003 training). Each of these certifications can be attained by passing certain exams associated with these.

The 70- 290 exam is actually a MCSE one, which ensures that you are qualified in the skills of managing and maintaining the 2003 version of Microsoft Windows. It is actually one of the first in the entire series of exams that come under the MCSE certifications. Once you clear this exam, you get a MCP status, with core credits for MCSA and MCSE 2003 certification.

The exam focuses on teaching you all aspects that are attached with the Microsoft Windows 2003 environment. You will learn about the basic configurations and troubleshooting, and will also learn about desktop and security settings. You will also learn about access to resources along with the managing and maintaining of server environments. Most importantly, you will learn about disaster recovery.
The examination pattern for 70- 290 is based on multiple choice questions, and you have to select the ‘best’ answer, out of all the similar responses given as options. The passing score for this exam is 700 from a total of 1000 marks.

MCSE exams are quite challenging, and are not easy to clear. Therefore, it is advisable to prepare well before hand, both theoretically as well as practically.

Career Track

Career Track

Network Architect Roles and Responsibilities :

Although there is some cross over between the job roles of Network Engineers and Network Architects, there is a difference in actual responsibilities. A Network Architect primarily focuses on the design of the network and the implementation of that design while an actual Network Engineer is usually the one responsible for the actual implementation of the design. Similar to a Network Administrator or regular Network Engineer, Network Architects may also be responsible for some tasks relating to telecommunications as well.

In companies that combine the telecommunications responsibilities with that of the Network Architect, candidates may also be responsible for the analysis, engineering and execution of software functions for telecom voice and data. Other general responsibilities may include :

* Design Modeling

* Network Performance Planning

* Network Capacity Planning

* Establishment of Telecommunications Standards (LAN/WAN)

Some employers may also require their Network Architects to manage technology vendors. This would require candidates to stay abreast of how technology infrastructures are currently impacting and driving competitors. You may also be responsible for negotiating high level contracts and maintaining long-term relationships.

Educational Requirements :

Although a bachelor's degree or associates degree in computer science, electrical engineering, MIS or other related industries will suffice for a general network engineering position, you need at least 6-10 years of technology experience to move into the position of a Network Architect as well as several years of experience working with Windows, Unix or Novell Systems. Extensive knowledge of network management, engineering disciplines, and operating systems are a must. An excellent addition to your skill sets is a sub-specialty such as telecommunications or e-commerce.

Soft skills as well as technical skills are important in the position of a Network Architect. Understanding and knowing how an application may affect the function of a business unit is critical, as is the ability to negotiate technology issues while building solutions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required as well as the ability to create and deliver effective presentations. A Network Architect will also need to work closely with other department heads and must possess the ability to see both the large and small picture.

Salary Potential : (As reported by the U.S. Dept. of Labor)

Average salaries (nationwide):

Entry (less than 1 year of experience): Engineer $44,999 Architect $43,077

Junior (1-2 years of experience): Engineer $50,282 Architect $55,961

Emerging (3-5 years of experience): Engineer $59,803 Architect $67,187

Experienced (6-9 years of experience): Engineer $68,845 Architect $78,787

Advanced (10+ years of experience): Engineer $75,584 Architect $87,384

Industry Certifications :

There are many certifications that will look good on a resume for a Network Architect. The most recommended are Novell's CNE and Master CNE, Nortel's Network's Certified Network Architect and Cisco's CCNP and CCIE. The larger the enterprise you've worked with the better. You should however, complete the recommended certifications for a Network Engineer first, however. These include:

* A+ 2003

* CCDA

* CCIE

* CISSP

* Linux+

* LPIC2 Linux Junior Level

* LCPI2 Linux Intermediate Level

* Master CIW Administrator

* Master CIW i-Accelerate

MCSA and MCSE Training - How to Choose

A qualification in either MCSE or MCSA requires a thorough knowledge of the administration of Windows operating systems, maintaining servers and network infrastructure. Initially, the choice between the two can often be a difficult choice to make.

There are a few important differences between the MCSA and MCSE courses and their requirements. For starters Microsoft recommends that those undertaking MCSE have at least one years’ prior experience compared with the 6-12 months stated for MCSA.

In addition to requiring less previous experience the MCSA usually takes around half the time to complete; around 4 to 6 months. This is contrasted with 8 to 12 months for completion of the MCSE.

Evidently, MCSE Training is longer because the syllabus is more comprehensive, however this may not necessarily lead to higher earnings; rather a differing career path.

According to Microsoft, MCSE training is geared more towards those seeking a career in the planning and implementation of servers whereas MCSA is focused primarily on maintaining, troubleshooting and managing existing network operating systems.

To put it simply: MCSA certificates do not emphasize or develop design skills and MCSE training does.

This means that the choice of course depends exclusively on the needs of the individual rather than one being superior to the other, with MCSE Training offering specialization in a variety of topics in order to focus on specific interests and equip professionals with specific skills.

Once the course is completed and the student is Microsoft Certified a whole host of opportunities arise. Newly Microsoft Certified individuals are highly sought after in the job market and lucrative salaries are on offer to those with an understanding of servers and network operating systems.

MCSE and MCSA training is obviously no substitute for hands on practical knowledge, which is only gained through experience. However a comprehensive awareness of the underlying technologies, alongside hands-on training, is the most effective method to further your career and expertise.

Certification is also the principal way of ensuring potential companies and employers know exactly what you are capable of. Many will profess expert knowledge of operating systems and system maintenance but without training and Microsoft certification this knowledge is impossible to assess solely from a CV.

Microsoft is indisputably one of the biggest and most recognizable corporations in the world, and a MCSA or MCSE Training is a guarantee that you meet and excel the exacting standards of Microsoft. Therefore certification from Microsoft itself is a great asset for anyone serious about a career in any area of IT, and an utterly essential one for those interested in systems engineering or administration.

MCPD Web Developer exam 70-547 hints and tips

Following my post about studying toward

MCPD certification, I’ve now taken the exam and am pleased to say I passed with a good score. The exam 70-547 is about designing and developing web applications using ASP.NET 2.0. It focuses on the full software development lifecycle and covers planning, architecture, design, testing and deployment, where as the prerequisite MCTS exams cover more of the actual coding and implementation details.

My main study guide was the official Microsoft Press book, MCPD Self-Paced
Training Kit (Exam 70-547). It covered the syllabus thoroughly enough to get me
through the exam, but like most similar books wasn’t much fun to read. It’s over
700 pages, and after the first few hundred the content starts to get fairly

monotonous. It’s also difficult to skim because you might miss something
essential for the exam. If you’re an experienced developer then you might not
learn much, but if you’re new to coding then you should find plenty of useful
information about broader areas of software development, such as architecture,
data modelling and unit testing.

A lot of the testing chapters read like an advert for Visual Studio Team System
(VSTS) and aggressively promote its unit testing and web load testing
capabilities. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a Microsoft exam after all,
but you will need Visual Studio Team Test if you want to work through the
practical exercises (an evaluation version is available). The unit testing in

VSTS is impressive, but doesn’t seem to offer much over the freely available
NUnit. The web load testing on the other hand is invaluable.

My best advice for the book is to read it in short frequent bursts. Try to read
a little bit every day and you’ll easily work through it, so don’t be
intimidated. If you find yourself slacking, just register for the exam and
you’ll soon become motivated. And remember to use the 15% exam discount voucher
that comes with the book.

My other study resource, which I also used for the MCTS exams, was the practice test from Testkingdom.com. The questions are very relevant to the actual exam, and helped highlight areas to focus my study. The most useful feature is that every answer has an explanation, so if you get one wrong you can

see why and hopefully fill a gap in your knowledge.

The exam isn’t easy, but many questions appeal to common sense as well as
technical expertise, and there aren’t any trick questions. There’s more than
enough time to work through the 40 multiple-choice questions, so be careful to
read each one closely and don’t panic. Some questions ask you to pick more than
one answer so follow the instructions carefully. The passing score is 700 out of
1000.

According to Microsoft’s statistics there are only 2,147 MCPD web developers
worldwide, so if you want to improve your skills, stand out in the job market,
or negotiate a promotion then certification could be a great career move.

My next goal is MCTS certification for SQL Server and exam 70–431. Then it
shouldn’t be too long before the next generation of .NET 3.5 MCTS are available.

Cisco CCNA / CCNP Certification: Deciphering Ping Results

As you study for your CCNA and CCNP exams, particularly if you're getting hands-on practice in your home lab or rack rental service, you're going to be sending a lot of pings. As a CCNA or CCNP candidate, you know that five exclamation points (!!!!!) as a ping return indicates that you have IP connectivity to the remote destination. Five periods (.....) indicates that you do not have that connectivity.

It's not enough to know that you don't have IP connectivity to the remote device, you've got to know why. Ping is a great first step to network troubleshooting, but the results are quite limited. As a CCNA and CCNP, you've got to know how to diagnose the problem and resolve it. Just looking at the routing table is not enough - a high-powered Cisco debug, debug ip packet, can often show you exactly where the problem is.

WARNING: debug ip packet should not be run on any production router without understanding the effect of this command on your router. This command results in a lot of output and can actually lock up a router.

In this case, we'll run the command on a home lab router that cannot ping 22.2.2.2. The debug will be turned on and another ping sent.

R1#debug ip packet

IP packet debugging is on

R1#ping 22.2.2.2

Type escape sequence to abort.

Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 22.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:

3d23h: IP: s=1.1.1.1 (local), d=22.2.2.2, len 100, unroutable.

R1#undebug all

All possible debugging has been turned off

I've edited this output for clarity; the important word is "unroutable". This indicates that the packet is not leaving the router because there is no match in the routing table for this destination. We'll configure a static default route and send the ping again.

R1#ping 22.2.2.2

Type escape sequence to abort.

Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 22.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:

U.U.U

Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)

That output may surprise those of you who are used to getting five of the same symbol back whenever you send a ping. We got three "U"s back along with two periods. We'll now run debug ip packet and send the ping again.

R1#debug ip packet

IP packet debugging is on

R1#ping 22.2.2.2

Type escape sequence to abort.

Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 22.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:

3d23h: IP: s=172.12.123.1 (local), d=22.2.2.2 (Serial0), len 100, sending

R1#traceroute 22.2.2.2

Type escape sequence to abort.

Tracing the route to 22.2.2.2

1 172.12.123.2 36 msec 36 msec 36 msec

2 172.12.123.2 !H * !H

R1#undebug all

All possible debugging has been turned off

Again, I've edited this output. The key word in this output is "sending", meaning that the packets are leaving the router. The ping return of "U.U.U" is a general indication that the packets are indeed being transmitted, but that a downstream router is having a problem routing the packets. Running traceroute reveals some more interesting return characters! In this case, the downstream router did not have a match for the destination in its routing table.

It's easy to concentrate on the local router when you're not getting positive ping returns. When troubleshooting this kind of issue, keep in mind the problem could be on an intermediate router and not on the local router. Use debug ip packet to make sure the packets are leaving the local router, and traceroute to determine what downstream router may have the problem. And get used to the fact that pings and traceroutes can give you some unusual-looking returns!

Getting ready for Exam 70-281

The Microsoft 70-281 test is designed for mostly IT professionals working in medium to large companies who have a complex computing environment that uses the Windows 2003 server operating system. They already have a conceptualized idea about basic project management and the Microsoft Implementation Network.

Generally, the kind of environments in which they have to be ready to work have supported users ranging from 250- 5,000+, numerous physical locations and single distributed Project Server production environment. They have standard technologies like Internet Information Services 6.0, Windows Share Point Services technology, SQL Server 2000, Project Server 2003, OLAP data services and many more.

When one appears for the test and completes it successfully, it certifies them as a Microsoft Certified Professional. Exam 70-281: Planning, Deploying, and Managing Enterprise Project Management Solutions also gives the examinee an elective credit towards the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). The test can be taken in both English and Japanese.

Basically the aim of the 70-281 Exam is to test the abilities of the professionals in various technical tasks. The tasks include planning an enterprise project management solution deployment, implementing and configuring an EPM solution, creating a management and operations plan for the EPM solution and troubleshooting project server.

To get though this exam with flying colours it is expected from the examinees to have a basic practical training in the same technical environment where they are supposed to work. Although there are currently no facilities for e-learning and press books for the 78-281 test available with Microsoft, there are many practice tests that one can take up to sharpen their skills in preparation for it. There are also various online resources that can be utilized for studying the skills that are being measured by the test, but not all topics can be found in the online resources.

Looking for guaranteed solution to certify now? I’d recommend you try 70-281 practice exam and 70-281 exam pdf material developed by subject specialist Exams Expert. Usually, I recommend these guides to my students.
