Certkngdom Is The Best Way To Prepare For The CCNA Exam?

Certkngdom Is The Best Way To Prepare For The CCNA Exam?

It seems like the question every new Cisco CCNA student has is what is the best way to prepare for the CCNA exam? So I would like to take some time in this article to discuss my thoughts on what will help you achieve your goal in obtaining your Cisco CCNA certification.

The CCNA exam was created to illustrate that you understand and can perform the topics relating to routing. Not that you can memorize questions and answers from brain dumps! So where do we start?

Study Guide – Well you will need a full blown CCNA study guide. These are about 800 pages in length so don’t expect to blow through them in a week. It is not light reading. Some good choices out there for study guides are the Sybex CCNA study guide for a low cost solution written in layman terms, the Bryant Advantage Study Package for a well written total package and the CiscoPress CCNA guide for a solution that is written very techie.

Real Routers and Switches – How can you really be confident and work on Cisco equipment if you never opened a Cisco router or Cisco switch? If you do get a job working with Cisco routers, will you be intimidated by the router the first time seeing it knowing you never actually worked on one? That said, there is so much to learn about these units by having the actual hardware. You can’t duplicate what happens when you have a serial cable come loose or are using the wrong type of cable(straight-thru versus cross-over) daisy chaining switches with a simulator. I don’t know about you, but I learn so much more effectively using real equipment. I also find that most CCNA students say the same. The only way to actually see routing and such work and know that you made it work is to have real Cisco routers and switches for your Cisco certification training lab. What I find is that when I mess up a lab about 10 times in a row due to a typo or trying to enter a command at the wrong level of the IOS, when I actually figure out what I was doing wrong….well, I am never going to forget that again! This is actual real hands-on experience! That translates into you actually understanding what went on and helps you obtain the troubleshooting skills so you can methodically work through issues. Again, there is no way to recreate this by just reading a book and understanding theory. So to help you pass your Cisco certification exam, I suggest you invest in some Cisco routers and switches for your lab. You will find it to be some of the best money ever spent on your education! At www.CiscoKits.com you will find CCNA kits to fit every budget. So head on over to CiscoKits to see their many kits and tons of free certification articles and videos. For more information on which routers to pick for your lab, you can checkout this article CCNA Lab Suggestions.

Lab Workbook – Something I never understood on eBay is people will buy solutions which are advertised as CCNA lab kits that have no corresponding lab workbooks that match the equipment that is being offered. What good is it to have a collection of equipment if you can’t perform labs on them? So you need to make sure the kit comes with a lab workbook. All the kits at CiscoKits have lab workbooks with them. You can see a sample of the topics covered on in the lab workbook at 640-802 CCNA LAb Workbook.

Test Engine – Now there is a BIG difference between a test engine that will help you understand the CCNA concepts and what you are missing and brain dumps! The test engines that are just the exact questions from the test are garbage! All that proves is that you can memorize questions and answers. If this is the route you choose to achieve your certification, you will ultimately choke on the job as you won’t really know the material to perform your job. You need to understand why an answer is right and why one is wrong.

CRAM Sheet – This is a great addition to your CCNA exam prep material. A CRAM sheet should consolidates all the major concepts from the 800 pages of a full blown study guide to a easy to carry sheet or two for you to review all hours of the day and night! Here is a link to a great CRAM sheet product, the CCNA 640-802 CRAM Sheet. Here you can see all the product details and concepts covered. This is very handy to carry around with you when you have a few free minutes to study here and there so you are not lugging around a big bulky book. You can also easily bring the CRAM sheet with you to cram to your exam. In fact, we suggest you do use it to brush up on the main concepts just before you pass your CCNA 640-802 exam!

CCNA CBT – If you can’t afford $3,000 to sit an actual class, the next best thing is a Video CBT of the CCNA course. Historically these CBTs run about $250 each. But a great tip is CiscoKits includes a CBT that normally is $250 with many of their lab kits for about $50! So you can save $200 on the cost of the CBT training! Here is a link to the CBT description CCNA CBT DVD Now just look for one of their kits that has it included as it only costs about $50 when you get it with a kit.

Ok, now that we covered the major tools you will use in your ICND1, ICND2, and CCNA self study journey, we are going to provide you some guidance on how to use them effectively. Here is a suggested study plan….

1. Read the first few chapters of the full blown CCNA study guide you purchased. These first three or four chapters are usually mostly your base theory and then around the third or forth chapter you get into basic router configuration and how to login to the router.

2. At that point you will want to configure your Cisco CCNA hardware lab. You will pick out some of the corresponding labs in the workbook to follow along with the study guide you purchased. That is why we wrote the lab workbook in a generic sense as there is no way we can know what study guide you will be using or what actual hardware you will have. But now you should be able to perform some of the basic CCNA labs in the lab workbook. Continue through your study guide performing the corresponding labs that are in the lab workbook.

3. One you complete the study guide, now you should go through one of the CCNA Test Engine exams such as CCNA exam A*(Important note, only do one exam!). After you complete the exam, you want to print out the entire exam so you can review the sections and concepts you got wrong. Also note what your score was for that exam.

4. Now go back to the study guide and brush up on the concepts you scored poorly on in exam number one.

5. You should now have a baseline of where you were at with the test score. We want to make sure you are scoring about an 80% before you even think about attempting the real Cisco CCNA exam at $125 a pop.

6. Here is where you will want to start to work in additional items such as the CRAM sheet and videos. These tools will present the information to you from a different perspective as everyone learns using different techniques and via different communication mechanisms. Some will benefit from the full blown study guides, some from the hands-on of the labs and workbook, some from the videos, others from the full color CRAM sheet and finally some from the test engine. You want to use all the tools at your disposal for all they are worth.

7. Once you reviewed all the material once, now go back and take CCNA exam B. Hopefully you are scoring close to 80% by now. You will then want to repeat the above process of printing out the exam, reviewing the sections or concepts you scored poorly on and again leveraging the tools at hand.

8. You should see how you can continue to repeat this methodology while learning and not memorizing the questions. If you memorize the questions, you defeat the purpose of trying to learn the actual concepts. I am quite sure if you follow this road map, you will be scoring close to 80% by the time you get to exam C. Just continue refreshing the material and in no time you will be holding your passing exam score for your CCNA certification!

Windows Vista Certification

Windows Vista Certification

In January of 2007 Microsoft released Exam 70-620 TS: Microsoft Windows Vista. Through this certification exam an IT professional gains training on how to become an expert in working with the Vista operating system, earning their Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification.

According to Microsoft the MCTS certification has different portions which have to be mastered in order to gain a passing exam score. Exam 70-620 is designed to train and test the following areas:

Installing and Upgrading Windows Vista
Configuring and Troubleshooting Post-Installation System Settings
Configure Windows Security Features
Configuring Network Connectivity
Configuring Applications Included with Windows Vista
Maintaining and Optimizing Systems That Run Vista
Configuring and Troubleshooting Mobile Computing

Microsoft has clearly stated their target audience for the MCTS certification is individuals who have worked closely with network connectivity, security, and network applications.

One of the questions which many IT professionals want to know is if this exam might replace the MCSE or MCSA exams. I havent been able to come up with a clear answer that proves this will be the case. There is speculation that yes, the popular MCSE exam could be replaced; however Microsoft hasnt stated that this will happen. What we do know for sure is that the IT industry is constantly changing and trying to develop more efficient manners to solve and answer problems. Vista is a crack at this from Microsoft in my opinion, and though right now it may not be the most popular operating system, it has the potential to be the direction of companies in the future. If this were the case, the new and upcoming certification courses Microsoft is offering now might be the most beneficial certifications to pursue.

Careful preparation for Exam 70-620 is crucial to gaining the MCTS certification. There are different routes one can take in order to most efficiently prepare. CBT courses are one of the most popular routes in becoming prepared for certification exams. Through these courses users are provided with the ability to set their own pace and the option to cover material as many times as needed prepare.

MCSE 2003 Online Training or Money Back

MCSE 2003 Online Training or Money Back

MCSE 2003 Training is for those who want to build a career in the field of networking. A training process covers the main topics very quickly but effectively. The course is of very short duration, that is, of only two to three weeks. MCSE or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer is one of the best-known and opening Microsoft certification. MCSE certifies a person as being able to handle the networking problems and can analyze the networking requirements to run the business. The certification not only validates your expertise with products launched by
Microsoft, but also demonstrat
es your skills and capabilities to present and potential employers and peers.

Windows 2000 and Windows server 2003 are the two different product platforms of MCSE past 2007, these lines were not a part of the MCSE, and each of them requires a different set of exams.

For MCSE 2003, candidate must pass six core-designed exams (one client operating system exams, one design exam, and four networking exams) and one elective exam.

For the windows 2000 MCSE 2003 Training, a candidate is required to clear five core exams (four operating system and one design exam). There are four compulsory or core examinations to be cleared by the candidate for MCSE NT 4.0 (retired). The syllabus of the examinations includes Networking essentials, Windows NT Server, Windows NT server in the enterprise and Windows NT workstation, plus two electives. The basic subjects of the exams are Microsoft SQL Server, network security, computer networking, Microsoft Exchange Server, other topics of networking and specific Microsoft products.

The individuals also prefer CISCO career certifications like CCNA, CCNP, and CCNE etc. Various institutions organize CISCO training program that provide, for training for these specific courses.

There are three levels of certification: Associate, Professional and Expert. The certification of CCNA cab be gained by passing two tests (ICND1 and ICND2), or one single test (CCNA 640-802), the two test option is more advantageous, allowing the candidate to focus on certain subjects. The certificate is valid for three years.

CCNA imparts trainee knowledge of networking like ability to install, configure and trouble shoot local and wide area networks. On the other hand, CCNP certifications have the demonstrated knowledge and expertise required to manage the routers and switches that form the medium sized networks (between 100 and 500 nodes). All the MCSE, CISCO and CCNP training programs are required to gain expertise in the networking field.

MCSA and MCSE Training - How to Choose

A qualification in either MCSE or MCSA requires a thorough knowledge of the administration of Windows operating systems, maintaining servers and network infrastructure. Initially, the choice between the two can often be a difficult choice to make.

There are a few important differences between the MCSA and MCSE courses and their requirements. For starters Microsoft recommends that those undertaking MCSE have at least one years’ prior experience compared with the 6-12 months stated for MCSA.

In addition to requiring less previous experience the MCSA usually takes around half the time to complete; around 4 to 6 months. This is contrasted with 8 to 12 months for completion of the MCSE.

Evidently, MCSE Training is longer because the syllabus is more comprehensive, however this may not necessarily lead to higher earnings; rather a differing career path.

According to Microsoft, MCSE training is geared more towards those seeking a career in the planning and implementation of servers whereas MCSA is focused primarily on maintaining, troubleshooting and managing existing network operating systems.

To put it simply: MCSA certificates do not emphasize or develop design skills and MCSE training does.

This means that the choice of course depends exclusively on the needs of the individual rather than one being superior to the other, with MCSE Training offering specialization in a variety of topics in order to focus on specific interests and equip professionals with specific skills.

Once the course is completed and the student is Microsoft Certified a whole host of opportunities arise. Newly Microsoft Certified individuals are highly sought after in the job market and lucrative salaries are on offer to those with an understanding of servers and network operating systems.

MCSE and MCSA training is obviously no substitute for hands on practical knowledge, which is only gained through experience. However a comprehensive awareness of the underlying technologies, alongside hands-on training, is the most effective method to further your career and expertise.

Certification is also the principal way of ensuring potential companies and employers know exactly what you are capable of. Many will profess expert knowledge of operating systems and system maintenance but without training and Microsoft certification this knowledge is impossible to assess solely from a CV.

Microsoft is indisputably one of the biggest and most recognizable corporations in the world, and a MCSA or MCSE Training is a guarantee that you meet and excel the exacting standards of Microsoft. Therefore certification from Microsoft itself is a great asset for anyone serious about a career in any area of IT, and an utterly essential one for those interested in systems engineering or administration.

MCPD Web Developer exam 70-547 hints and tips

Following my post about studying toward

MCPD certification, I’ve now taken the exam and am pleased to say I passed with a good score. The exam 70-547 is about designing and developing web applications using ASP.NET 2.0. It focuses on the full software development lifecycle and covers planning, architecture, design, testing and deployment, where as the prerequisite MCTS exams cover more of the actual coding and implementation details.

My main study guide was the official Microsoft Press book, MCPD Self-Paced
Training Kit (Exam 70-547). It covered the syllabus thoroughly enough to get me
through the exam, but like most similar books wasn’t much fun to read. It’s over
700 pages, and after the first few hundred the content starts to get fairly

monotonous. It’s also difficult to skim because you might miss something
essential for the exam. If you’re an experienced developer then you might not
learn much, but if you’re new to coding then you should find plenty of useful
information about broader areas of software development, such as architecture,
data modelling and unit testing.

A lot of the testing chapters read like an advert for Visual Studio Team System
(VSTS) and aggressively promote its unit testing and web load testing
capabilities. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a Microsoft exam after all,
but you will need Visual Studio Team Test if you want to work through the
practical exercises (an evaluation version is available). The unit testing in

VSTS is impressive, but doesn’t seem to offer much over the freely available
NUnit. The web load testing on the other hand is invaluable.

My best advice for the book is to read it in short frequent bursts. Try to read
a little bit every day and you’ll easily work through it, so don’t be
intimidated. If you find yourself slacking, just register for the exam and
you’ll soon become motivated. And remember to use the 15% exam discount voucher
that comes with the book.

My other study resource, which I also used for the MCTS exams, was the practice test from Testkingdom.com. The questions are very relevant to the actual exam, and helped highlight areas to focus my study. The most useful feature is that every answer has an explanation, so if you get one wrong you can

see why and hopefully fill a gap in your knowledge.

The exam isn’t easy, but many questions appeal to common sense as well as
technical expertise, and there aren’t any trick questions. There’s more than
enough time to work through the 40 multiple-choice questions, so be careful to
read each one closely and don’t panic. Some questions ask you to pick more than
one answer so follow the instructions carefully. The passing score is 700 out of
1000.

According to Microsoft’s statistics there are only 2,147 MCPD web developers
worldwide, so if you want to improve your skills, stand out in the job market,
or negotiate a promotion then certification could be a great career move.

My next goal is MCTS certification for SQL Server and exam 70–431. Then it
shouldn’t be too long before the next generation of .NET 3.5 MCTS are available.

Cisco CCNA / CCNP Certification: Deciphering Ping Results

As you study for your CCNA and CCNP exams, particularly if you're getting hands-on practice in your home lab or rack rental service, you're going to be sending a lot of pings. As a CCNA or CCNP candidate, you know that five exclamation points (!!!!!) as a ping return indicates that you have IP connectivity to the remote destination. Five periods (.....) indicates that you do not have that connectivity.

It's not enough to know that you don't have IP connectivity to the remote device, you've got to know why. Ping is a great first step to network troubleshooting, but the results are quite limited. As a CCNA and CCNP, you've got to know how to diagnose the problem and resolve it. Just looking at the routing table is not enough - a high-powered Cisco debug, debug ip packet, can often show you exactly where the problem is.

WARNING: debug ip packet should not be run on any production router without understanding the effect of this command on your router. This command results in a lot of output and can actually lock up a router.

In this case, we'll run the command on a home lab router that cannot ping 22.2.2.2. The debug will be turned on and another ping sent.

R1#debug ip packet

IP packet debugging is on

R1#ping 22.2.2.2

Type escape sequence to abort.

Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 22.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:

3d23h: IP: s=1.1.1.1 (local), d=22.2.2.2, len 100, unroutable.

R1#undebug all

All possible debugging has been turned off

I've edited this output for clarity; the important word is "unroutable". This indicates that the packet is not leaving the router because there is no match in the routing table for this destination. We'll configure a static default route and send the ping again.

R1#ping 22.2.2.2

Type escape sequence to abort.

Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 22.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:

U.U.U

Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)

That output may surprise those of you who are used to getting five of the same symbol back whenever you send a ping. We got three "U"s back along with two periods. We'll now run debug ip packet and send the ping again.

R1#debug ip packet

IP packet debugging is on

R1#ping 22.2.2.2

Type escape sequence to abort.

Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 22.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:

3d23h: IP: s=172.12.123.1 (local), d=22.2.2.2 (Serial0), len 100, sending

R1#traceroute 22.2.2.2

Type escape sequence to abort.

Tracing the route to 22.2.2.2

1 172.12.123.2 36 msec 36 msec 36 msec

2 172.12.123.2 !H * !H

R1#undebug all

All possible debugging has been turned off

Again, I've edited this output. The key word in this output is "sending", meaning that the packets are leaving the router. The ping return of "U.U.U" is a general indication that the packets are indeed being transmitted, but that a downstream router is having a problem routing the packets. Running traceroute reveals some more interesting return characters! In this case, the downstream router did not have a match for the destination in its routing table.

It's easy to concentrate on the local router when you're not getting positive ping returns. When troubleshooting this kind of issue, keep in mind the problem could be on an intermediate router and not on the local router. Use debug ip packet to make sure the packets are leaving the local router, and traceroute to determine what downstream router may have the problem. And get used to the fact that pings and traceroutes can give you some unusual-looking returns!

Get the best PMP certification Training

PMP stands for Project Management Professional. PMP certification is offered by PMI (Project Management Institute) and those that obtain this certification demonstrate a proficient level of project management leadership skills. PMP certification is widely recognized by major companies and government agencies worldwide as the standard qualification for the role of project managers resulting in certificate holders commanding higher salaries than the others. According to the PMI website, as of July 2008, there are more than a quarter million certified professionals around the world. Many companies require their project managers to hold this certification and is growing in popularity every day.

Ten Steps to get PMP certification

1. Make sure you meet the criteria set by PMI before deciding to apply for the PMP certification.

Eligibility criteria for applying for PMP examination

a. You should have documents to prove that you had at least 35 contact hours of formal education in project management. Read my other hub to know more on how to get the 35 contact hours for applying for PMP certification.

b. If you have a Bachelor's degree, document at least three calendar years experience in project management during which at least 4,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks. Note that experience in all the five recognized project management process groups is required. The five process groups are Initiation, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Control and Closing.

If you do not have a Bachelor's degree, applicants must have a minimum five years professional project management experience, during which at least 7,500 hours are spent leading and directing project tasks, within the past eight years from the time of application. Make sure to read the PMP Handbook published by PMI for more details. Note that you will have to provide the contact information of your manager or supervisor. If PMI chooses to audit your application, they will contact your manager for verification.

2. Become a member of the PMI

As of July 2008, the annual membership dues are $129. PMI members get a discount on the PMP examination fee that is bigger than the annual membership fees so it financially make sense to become a PMI member if you are planning to take the PMP exam that year. You may not want to renew it the following year if you decide you don't want it anymore. In addition to the discount, you also get an electronic copy of PMBOK guide (reading this book is essential to prepare well for the exam) and networking opportunities within the PMI community.

Do not forget to check your local PMI chapter. Explore about their activities, courses and meetings and decide if you want to become a member of the local PMI chapter. Some chapters provide PMP preparation courses and seminars which you will find very useful. It is a great opportunity to meet new and experienced PMPs in person and learn from them. You will also meet people who are preparing for the PMP exam and you can form a study group and share knowledge.

3. Apply online for PMP certification at PMI (www.pmi.org)

a. You will be filling in all the details that are mentioned in above steps (1a) and (1b) along with your personal information, educational qualification, etc.

b. PMP Examination fees: $405 for PMI members. $555 for non-members. You can use your credit card to pay for this.

Make sure the application is complete. Do not forget to attach your resume. Once you apply, it may take upto 2 weeks for your application to get approved by PMI. If you apply online, the processing time is only 5 business days.

4. Start preparing for the exam. Read the PMP Handbook again and understand all the rules. Start reading on the internet about PMP exam, experiences of recent successful PMPs, lessons learnt during the process, etc. Join various forums dedicated to PMP examination on the internet and browse through and ask questions. You can learn a lot from other successful PMPs and those who are in the same boat as you. Refer to the links section below for a list of active PMP forums.

5. Schedule a date for PMP examination: If your application is approved, instructions will be sent to you from PMI and you can schedule a date for your exam. You may not get a date immediately. So, schedule the exam date well in advance. Once your application is approved, you have one-year eligibility period in which to pass the PMP exam. During this eligibility period, you may take the examination up to three times because candidates may not pass the exam on their first attempt. There is a $150 reexamination fee. If you fail three times in a year, you must wait one year to reapply.

Check these out for more details

6. Exam preparation: Prepare rigorously for the exam. It may take anywhere from 3 to 6 months on average to prepare for the examination. I know some extreme cases where a person spent just 3 weeks preparing full-time and passed the exam.

Here are some study material that I suggest for PMP preparation and I have given the direct links to their Amazon pages on the right.

The PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) guide. It looks like about 75% of the questions on the PMP exam come from the PMBOK guide. So, make sure you study this guide again and again. However, understand that the PMBOK guide is so dry that it is raw text material only with no interesting examples and is difficult to understand. There are well written books and audio tapes I am listing below to understand the concepts given in the guide in an interesting way.

PMP Audio workshop: If you are commuting a lot or traveling for a long time, audio books are a great way to use the time effectively. Note that some audio workshops also count towards your contact hours (remember you need at least 35 contact hours on training to be eligible for the exam). I suggest PMP Prepcast as it has a lot of positive feedback from many successful PMPs.

Hot Topics Flashcards for Passing the PMP and CAPM Exams (Audio CD) by Rita Mulcahy
The PMP Exam: How to Pass On Your First Try (Test Prep series) by Andy Crowe - Great first book to read to get an idea of the PMP exam.

Rita's Course in a Book for Passing the PMP Exam by Rita Mulcahy Head First PMP: A Brain-Friendly Guide to Passing PMP Exam by Andrew Stellman and Jennifer Greene

7. Take a lot of model tests. There are a lot free PMP exam sample questions available on the internet that you should answer. Also, buy some model exams and take them as if they are real exams conducted by PMP. If you get 80% of the question right, you should be ready for the actual PMP exam.

8. Take the exam: The PMP exam is 4 hours long. Make sure you are fresh and relaxed on the day of the PMP exam. This means that you will need a good night's sleep the previous night. Have a good breakfast and drive to the testing center early. Do not forget to take your ID with you.

Preparing for the Microsoft 70-298 exam

Microsoft has a series of exams that focus on specific aspects of computing respectively. Most of these exams are geared towards providing either elective or core credits towards the various certifications that it offers. The two main types of certifications that people usually go in for are MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer) and MCSA (Microsoft Certified System Administrator). Both these certifications are quite reputed in the IT industry and are available for a number of platforms, for example Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment, and similarly for the 2000 environment etc.

The 70-298 Exam focuses on designing security for a windows server 2003 network. For professionals who are working in various companies, be it small or big, taking this exam is quite beneficial. This exam is basically a part of the various exams that come under the MCSE certification. Each certification from Microsoft has certain exams associated with it, and once a person clears all these exams, he/she gets the certification. After passing the 70-298 Exam, the candidate gains core credits towards MCSE on Windows Server 2003 certification. He/ she also gains core credits for the MCSE Security on Windows 2003 certification.

There is classroom training for this exam known by the name of Course 2830, and there are Microsoft Press Self- Paced Training Products also available. Besides, for practice, a person can go in for Microsoft certified practice tests by the different names. There are also a variety of Microsoft Online Resources that people can refer to. The 70-298 exam was made available in December 2003, and since then, it has undergone certain revisions. Microsoft regularly keeps on updating the examination related information on its website, which includes the marking pattern as well as other related changes. One can access this updated information easily.

If you are looking for guaranteed training for 70-297 certification exam. I’d recommend you try 70-298 practice exam and 70-298 exam pdf material developed by subject specialist Exams Expert. Usually, I recommend these guides to my students.

Microsoft Certification: Farewell To The MCSE

Microsoft is in the middle of a major push to overhaul its certification program. Last year, they announced the new Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA) certification, which is not a written exam but rather a practical exam that will be graded by a board of examiners. Just applying for the certification will require 10 years' experience in IT as well as three years of practical experience as a network architect.

For those of us not quite ready for that, Microsoft has announced that it's also going to revise other certifications. The MCSE that we've all come to know and love is going to be a thing of the past. In its place will be a series of specialization exams and IP Professional certification tracks.

If you're currently an MCSE exam or working it, don't worry, you have plenty of time to adapt to the new tracks. Microsoft's official word is that the new certification structure will be implemented when the next Windows server/client version is released. For those holding MCDBAs, your current certification will remain valid and you'll have a chance to upgrade to the new certification with SQL Server 2005.

Those of us who have been on the certification track for a while remember the outcry when Microsoft planned to phase out the much-maligned NT 4.0 certification in the move to Windows 2000. There was quite an outcry from many certified individuals who felt MS was being unreasonable in their timetable and planned lack of support for the 4.0 certification. Whether you agree with Microsoft's planned changes, I urge you to visit Microsoft's certification site regularly to keep up with these changes.

Whether you choose to pursue any of these new tracks is your decision, but you owe it to yourself and your career to know about the new tracks. Change is inevitable in IT and the IT certification world, and you must be aware of these changes!

Microsoft has announced major changes to its certification track, including the eventual retirement of the MCSE Training. Learn about these important details from Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933.

Cisco / MCSE Exam Study: Creating A Road Map To Success

Planning for success on the CCNA, CCNP, and other Cisco exams is much like taking a trip in your car. You've got to plan ahead, accept the occasional detour, and just keep on going until you get there. But what do you do before you get started?

Create a road map - for success.

If you were driving from one side of the country to another, you certainly wouldn't just get in your car and start driving, would you? No. You would plan the trip out ahead of time. What would happen if you just got in the car and started driving in the hope that you would someday arrive at your final destination? You would never get there, and you'd spend a lot of time wandering aimlessly.

Don't spend your study time and slow your progress by studying for a Cisco exam without planning the trip. Schedule your study time as you would an appointment with a client, and keep that appointment. Make sure that your study time is quality study - turn your TV, iPod, and cell off. If you hit a bump in the road and don't get your certification the first time you take the exam, regroup and create another plan. Study until you get to the point that on exam day, you know that you are already a CCNA or CCNP and you're just there at the testing center to make it official.

The journey to success is not a straight line. When you look at a chart that shows a company's financial progress, the line never goes straight up. there are some ups and downs, but the overall result is success. The path to your eventual career and certification exam success may not be a direct one, but the important part is to get started - and to get any journey started, you've got to create a road map for a successful arrival at your destination.

Microsoft Training Certifications

Microsoft has well become an integral part of an information technology professional’s knowledge. If you work in the industry, you are sure to come across a server or computer that has some kind of Microsoft technology embedded in the architecture. Microsoft training certifications offer several different tracks to advance your knowledge in the different software programs, and it also gives you and the organization a better understanding for configuration, installation, troubleshooting, and security solutions to implement within a Microsoft based network.

Choosing a Microsoft training certification track can be difficult since many of the exams overlap in technology.

Software Application Developer
If your main job function is application development, design, or support than a MCAD (Microsoft Certified Application Developer) and MCPD (Microsoft Certified Professional Developer) are perfect for your career advancement. Microsoft training for these certifications give the information technology professional a better understanding of the Microsoft .NET Framework. As any developer knows, the .NET Framework is the main substance that makes a programmer’s application backbone.

Systems Engineer
System Engineers such as desktop support, server administrators, or network administrators can benefit from Microsoft training for the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) course. The MCSE gives professionals a better understanding of the main software operating systems, corporate networking infrastructure, and networking protocols.

Systems Analyst
System Analysts familiar with the overall lifecycle of software development will appreciate a Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD). This form of Microsoft training gives analysts a better understanding for proper design, development, testing and maintenance. Even project managers engaged with working with software developers can benefit from this type of Microsoft training to create a better way to work with software management and design.

IT Business Analyst
Microsoft training includes certifications for simple Office application professionals. For Business Analysts, understanding all the functions, macros, and sharing techniques for Office business products can be done with Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exams. Not only are MCP exams great for Office applications, but it is a step up for further Microsoft training for such certifications such as an MCSD.

Software Engineer
Software engineers have the benefit of being able to go two ways in their Microsoft training certifications. Both the MCSD and the MCSE can benefit a software engineer depending on the topics on which you want to focus. An MCSD will give you a better understanding from a project management perspective such as the software development lifecycle. Conversely, the MCSE will give a professional who is stronger in programming development and languages a better understanding of development tools, technologies, and platforms.

Network Administrators
Network administrators can best advance their knowledge through Microsoft training and MCSE certifications. MCSE exams focus on networking technologies, software development, and operating systems for both servers and desktops. It also tests your knowledge on the different networking protocols.

If you are a professional in an organization that is mainly Microsoft technologies, certifications in any of the above categories can greatly increase your personal worth as well as bring your organization a more qualified professional.
